The $5,000 Doris Day Animal Foundation Grant is given out numerous people each year, all with a mission of helping animals around the country.

Most people have a love for animals, including felons. Many of them love to rescue animals and do things in the community to help. No matter what type of animals it may be that you love and want to help, there is a good chance that it will fit the guidelines to be considered for a grant through the Doris Day Animal Foundation. Each year, there are many people who apply for and receive grants to help with their animal welfare mission.

About the Doris Day Animal Foundation Grant

The Doris Day Animal Foundation is an organization in the name of the famous actress. She was an animal advocate and to this day her legacy of helping animals lives on. While the actress died in 2019, her foundation continues to give away grants to those who help animals. The charity was founded in 1978, because Doris Day was a lifelong advocate for animal welfare.

Here are some things to keep in mind about the $5,000 Doris Day Animal Foundation Grant:

  • The grants that are given out by the organization are to help support animal welfare initiatives in the community. For example, you could have a goal of helping the feral cat population in your area, or assisting senior pets with ongoing care.
  • All grant applications start with a letter of interest. You need to send the organization a letter, letting them know you are interested in a grant and what you would like to do with it.
  • Letters of interest are only accepted during specific months throughout the year. You can submit them during the months of January, April, July, and October. During those months they will receive the applications, and then they will review them during the other months and determine who to give awards to. They cannot give everyone an award who applies for one, but they do give out quite a few grants each quarter and year.
  • In writing your letter of interest you will need to write a detailed description of what you would like to use the funds for. They need to know how you will be helping animals in your community and how the funds will be spent assisting that effort.
  • You will need to know how much money you need to help with your animal welfare efforts. The maximum amount they give per grant is $5,000, so the amount cannot exceed that.
  • Once you have your detailed letter completed and ready, you can mail it in for consideration. The office is located in Los Angeles.
  • Some of the programs that are routinely funded by the Doris Day Animal Foundation include caring and placement for senior pets, stocking pet food pantries, special needs projects for animals, spay and neuter programs, and medical care for senior animals. If you have a good idea for ways to help animals in your community don’t hesitate in seeking the funds to see if it can be covered with one of their grants. You won’t know if your idea will be funded until you submit it for consideration.

Once You Apply and Beyond

Felons who apply for the Doris Day grant to help animals should expect that it will take some time to hear back from them. Typically speaking, it takes from three to six months for applications to be processed. Therefore, you will likely not hear from the organization about a decision for at least three months after submitting your grant application. If you are approved for a grant, you can get another one, but not for at least one year.

Many felons can turn their love of animals into an organization that helps them within their community. There are grants that will help to support and fund the mission, and the Doris Day Animal Foundation is one of those grants that felons can apply for. With grant applications being accepted during four months throughout the year, felons have plenty of time to get their application letter together to be considered.

The grants will be given out each year in Doris Day’s memory. It’s a good idea for any felons who love animals and who want to give back to their community to get involved. You can start your own organization, or volunteer or work at an existing one. Grants such as these help keep such organizations going and being more successful in their mission.
