Programs Offering Help with Groceries for Ex-Felons      :::      Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) – This program is government funded and used to be called food stamps. Those who qualify for the program will get a debit-style card that can be used at the grocery store to pay for food. Each month, the government electronically adds funds to the card, so that you can purchase more food. The amount you receive each month is determined by how many people there are in your household. There is no limit to how long you can get help from this program, and can continue as long as you continue to need help with groceries.

Salvation Army – This organization has thousands of locations around the country. They have a variety of programs to help people in need in the community they are in. Their programs will help with groceries for ex-felons, as well as others. They provide hot meals daily, as well as boxes of food from their pantry. Catholic Charities – This faith-based organization has thousands of locations around the country, helping the people in each community who need assistance. They will provide food assistance by offering free meals each day, as well as providing bags and boxes of food that you can take home. St. Vincent De Paul – This is another faith-based organization that helps people meet their basic needs, including helping people to obtain groceries. Ex-felons, and others, can reach out to them for assistance. They offer free food and pantries to help the people in the community who need it. Food Finder – There are food pantries around the country, with locations in just about every city or metropolitan area. Food pantries allow you to go get free boxes of food on a regular basis. Some are set up like stores that allow you to shop for the items you would like, without paying for them. Others provide you with free boxes of food without you know what is inside each box. There are also pantries that hold “food drops” that set up in a parking lot and allow you to pull up, open your trunk, and then they fill it with groceries. You do not even have to get out of the car to go get the items. There are also some food pantries that are mobile, so they will make deliveries and set up in various neighborhoods where people need the help the most. If you still need additional help or find it easier to contact one of these places, reach out to churches in your area. Many churches around the country run outreach programs that provide food assistance to those in the community who need help. They have soup kitchens, you were can get free meals, and they offer pantry programs, where you can get free boxes of food to take home. If they know you need help obtaining groceries there is a good chance that a church will make the effort to help you.

Another resource to look for your community is rescue missions. They are found in metropolitan areas around the country. They provide help with groceries for ex-felons, as well as others. They will help with food, shelter, etc. If you can locate a rescue mission in your community they should be able to provide you with help obtaining groceries or give you a referral to a local place that can help you with obtaining groceries.

The places offering free help with groceries will most likely not ask if you are an ex-felon. They are more concerned with your financial needs. The programs exist to help people in the community who have a low income or have fallen on challenging financial times. Contact as many places as you feel you need to in order to have your basic needs met.
